Holiday Events

• Lights and Banners

  

  From Thanksgiving through Three Kings Day, the Sunset Park BID strings streamers of lights across the avenue to create a festive atmosphere for our patrons.  5th Avenue is decorated with 50 lighted streamers, 2 per block for the 26 blocks of the commercial strip.   

• Music to Shop By

  

  For the first time, this year the Sunset Park BID placed 15 speakers on corner lampposts, playing holiday music as customers shopped.

• Holiday Tree

  

  The Sunset Park BID, in cooperation with Our Lady of Perpetual Help Basilica, places an 18-foot tree at 60th Street and 5th Avenue.  A tree lighting ceremony is held to officially kick off the holiday season, with local entertainment and free pictures with Santa Claus in front of the tree.

• Sharing with Friends

  

  The Sunset Park BID hosted a holiday get-together at its offices for board members and friends from agencies and other offices. 

• Santas and Candy Canes

  

  For two weekends before Christmas and on Christmas Eve, Sidewalk Santa Clauses could be seen walking throughout the entire BID area.

• Security Patrols

  

  During the holiday season, we hired our own Sunset Park Security to patrol each evening from Thanksgiving to Christmas.
